Washington Medicaid covers cochlear implants for both adults and children. Payment for the cochlear implant device system (L8614) and replacement of the speech processor (L8619) are at acquisition cost.
Payment for the physician professional fee (CPT 69930) is $2,521.40 under the 2002 Medicaid fee schedule.
Only three hospitals currently perform cochlear implant surgeries in Washington. These are Children's Hospital and Virginia Mason in Seattle, and the Madigen Army Medical Center in Tacoma.
