Below are letters from surgeons at two renowned cochlear implant centers supporting removal of the Medicare physician supervision requirement for speech processor programming. These letters document that Medicare's supervision requirement completely ignored the fact that only audiologists are trained and qualified to perform this service.

Medicare removed the supervision requirement in March 2003 due to the advocacy efforts of Mark Hobratschk.
