The Oklahoma Medicaid program covers cochlear implant services for children under age 21, but not for adults.
An Oklahoma family won coverage of bilateral implants for their son in January 2007. They appealed an initial denial of a second implant, and prior to an administrative hearing on the appeal, Oklahoma Medicaid not only agreed to provide benefits, but revised its policy so that coverage of bilateral implants will now be considered on a case-by-case basis instead of automatically denied.
