The Idaho Department of Public Welfare provides Medicaid benefits for cochlear implantation in children under age 21, as required by Federal law.
Payment for the device is just over $14,000. Payment for replacement of the speech processor is just over $6,000.
Idaho pays roughly 75 percent of the costs of the procedure when performed on an outpatient basis and much less for inpatient surgeries.
